University of Idaho Extension’s Cereal School Returns with Comprehensive Agricultural Insights

In a bid to further knowledge on cereal crop management, the University of Idaho Extension has announced its annual Cereal School. Set to take place in various locations across Idaho, including in the city of Preston, the event is scheduled throughout the month of February. The school is a comprehensive educational event that provides updates and insights into a multitude of agricultural topics.

Cereal School: A Hub of Agricultural Education

The Cereal School is designed to serve as a hub for agricultural education, focusing specifically on the management of cereal crops. Attendees will gain access to the latest variety trial results, providing a look at the performance of different cereal crop varieties under various conditions. The event will also address pest management strategies for wireworms, diseases, and nematodes, offering effective techniques for maintaining crop health.

Soil Amendment and Nutrient Management

One of the highlights of the Cereal School is the focus on soil amendment techniques. These include the practice of liming, a method used to amend acidic soils. In addition, the event will present the latest findings from nutrient management studies, providing insights into how best to maintain soil fertility and promote crop growth.

Herbicides, Plant Growth Regulators, and Grain Drying

The Cereal School will also delve into the effectiveness of combining herbicides with plant growth regulators. This strategy can increase crop yield and quality by enhancing plant growth and controlling weeds. Furthermore, attendees will learn about the logistics and economics associated with grain drying, a crucial process in cereal crop production.

The Cereal School in Preston is set to be held on February 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Robinson Building of the Franklin County Fairgrounds. Other locations hosting the event include Soda Springs, Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Burley, and St. Anthony. Interested individuals are encouraged to pre-register by February 1, with a registration fee of $20, or $25 at the door on the day of the event.
